A Sound Objective

Paul Thomas

Objective

To obtain work in the following areas: Live sound mixing for FOH or monitors, tour managing, studio recording/mixing, on-location sound and post production mixing for film/video/TV.

I never feel like I have to go to work. Instead I feel grateful to have a job that I love. I have been told that being a sound-man is a thankless job, but I disagree with that. The many different people I work with do indeed thank me for my hard work and positive attitude every single day. My job is 50% audio knowledge and 50% people skills. Being friendly and professional while also passionate about the quality of my work is what separates me from most of my peers.

I have been working around live music sound systems and recording studios in one capacity or another since 1991. Since 1995 I have toured internationally with ten different bands, and I have also worked in professional recording studios. In 2005 I began mixing sound for various bands and venues around the San Francisco bay area. In less than one year I was promoted to being the head sound-person at The Bottom of the Hill, one of the premier live music venues in the San Francisco bay area. I regularly mix live sound at The Elbo Room and also do freelance work at other audio related jobs such as on-location sound recording for film/TV/video.

I've toured with The Riverdales, Mr. T Experience, The Groovie Ghoulies, The Queers, The Muffs, Teen Idols, The Misfits, The Bellrays, Stars of Track and Field, and The Thermals. Other headliners, support bands, and people that can testify to my work ethic include: Green Day, The Smugglers, Boris The Sprinkler, Chixdiggit, The Gadjits, Husking Bee, Screw 32, Cub, The Lillingtons, Squirtgun, Gwar, Shikasta, the owners of Lookout Records, 10-Til-2, The Twilight Singers, Jeff Klein, The Big Sleep, The Hold Steady, and the staff members of hundreds of clubs all across North America.
